In 16 Bars Privacy Policy

Effective 2 November 2026

App: In 16 Bars (iOS)
Developer: Anmoku Laboratories Pty Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”)

The short version

In 16 Bars does not collect, store or share your personal information. Recording, transcription and scoring all happen on your iPhone. We have no accounts, servers, analytics, advertising or tracking. Your recordings never leave your device unless you choose to share them.

Information we collect

None. We don’t receive any information about you or how you use the app.

What the app uses on your device

The app asks for the following permissions. Everything below is processed on your device only and is never sent to us or anyone else.

PermissionWhy it’s used
CameraRecords video of your performance during a take.
MicrophoneRecords your voice during a take, for the video and for transcription.
Speech RecognitionTranscribes your verse into text in real time using Apple’s on-device speech recognition.
Photos (add only)Saves an exported video to your photo library when you choose to. The app can’t see or read your existing photos.
MotionPowers the tilt effect on the title screen. Motion data isn’t recorded or stored.
Notifications (optional)Sends at most one local reminder a day while you have a Daily Challenge streak. Reminders are scheduled on your device; there are no push notifications.

You can change any of these at any time in Settings › Apps › In 16 Bars.

Scoring

The relevance of each bar to your keywords is judged on your device, by Apple’s on-device Foundation Models when Apple Intelligence is turned on, or otherwise by built-in keyword matching. Your lyrics are never sent to a server or a third-party AI service.

Recordings and transcripts

Recordings and transcripts are kept only in the app’s temporary storage while you review a take, and they’re deleted when you leave the results screen. If you save a video, a copy goes to your Photos library, where you control it. If you share one, it goes only where you send it.

Data stored on your device

The app keeps a small amount of information on your device to run the Daily Challenge: the date you last completed it and your current streak count. This isn’t linked to your identity and is deleted when you delete the app.

Speech model download

On first launch, iOS downloads Apple’s English speech recognition model to your device. That download is handled by Apple under Apple’s Privacy Policy, and we receive no information from it.

Sharing

We don’t sell, rent or share personal information, because we don’t collect any. If you share an exported video using the iOS share sheet (for example to Messages, Instagram or TikTok), it goes to the app or service you pick, and that service’s privacy policy applies.

Apple

Apple may give developers aggregated, anonymous information such as App Store download numbers, and crash reports from users who have chosen to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings. This information doesn’t identify you. Apple’s handling of it is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Children

In 16 Bars is rated 13+ and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because we don’t collect or hold personal information about you, we have nothing to access, correct, export or delete. All app data lives on your device, and deleting the app removes it. Videos you saved to Photos stay there until you delete them. If you have questions about your rights under Australian privacy law, the EU or UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act or similar laws, please contact us.

Security

Your data stays on your device and is protected by iOS security, including your passcode, Face ID and on-device encryption.

Changes to this policy

If the app’s data practices change, for example if we add a feature that sends data off your device, we’ll update this policy and the effective date above before that change is released. We’ll also update the App Store privacy details to match.
